TVR Vixen - Wheels and Tyres

Wheels

The wheels are the original alloy wheels made specially for TVR and standard on the Vixen S3. They are 15 inches diameter 5.5 J. I have a feeling that some wider wheels of this pattern may have been made as I was given a spare rim at one time. I never used it and passed it on with the Vixen S2 but I thought that it was deeper than the spare. My imagination? Do you know?

Tubes

They're originally intended to be used with tubes and there is one big advantage to this. It means that if you need luggage space you can leave the spare at home and take a spare tube or use tyreweld without ruining the tyre.

Spare

The spare is supposed to be fastened down to the wooden panel above the petrol tank. This should help to restrain it under heavy braking. I had to make a new restraining clamp (missing) and a new boot floor as the original had been replaced with a very thin piece of plywood. I also had to retrim the area around the spare as a loudspeaker was where the spare should be. The speakers were also too heavy for the rear trim panel which kept falling off with their weight so they were put in reinforced panels behind the rear wheel arches.

Tyre Sizes

Very few owners seem to use the original tyre sizes. The table below shows the effect of tyre sizes on ride height and speedometer accuracy.
